Registered Clinical Counselling
Clinical counselling uses mental health principles, values and techniques to aid you in gaining insight into existing challenges, gaining new skills, and creating emotional freedom from the past
What is Clinical Counselling?
A Registered Clinical Counsellor works with patients to help identify, examine, and treat mental health and emotional issues and/or disorders. They counsel individuals or groups regarding psychological and/or emotional problems, as well as observe clients to detect indications of abnormal physical or mental behavior. Our clinical counsellor helps assess these challenges by guiding and offering exercises.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
What is it? Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is a technique used in psychotherapy that helps people heal from symptoms and emotional distress that results from disturbing life experiences/traumas. Initially developed to treat PTSD, EMDR has been found to be broadly effective and can help in treating complex grief, trauma, attachment ruptures, substance use and addictions, etc. It is highly effective in reducing stress from distinct traumas but also the distress from small traumas and emotional injuries that accumulate over time. We offer EMDR in our office as well as through online counselling. Both modes are highly effective.
What to expect?
EMDR is a triggering process. The process requires direct engagement with traumatic memories and the feelings/sensations that arise alongside support (via bilateral stimulation and intervention from the counsellor) to decrease the distress still associated with those memories. The average number of sessions varies from 3-8 sessions and is usually adequate to address one target memory.
More information about various phases can be found here.
If you are curious about EMDR or whether it would be an effective treatment for your goals, please feel free to contact our therapist, Oiyu Chan for a consult.
